I began research for my honors thesis knowing that I sought to connect my emerging passion for urban studies with my continuing interest in critical analyses of gender. My research project examines my home state of New Hampshire’s increased migration of women within the state during the post-recession of 2008.
My training in Gender and Women’s Studies enables me to employ a multi-method approach, using qualitative interviews with women from New Hampshire and quantitative data provided by the U.S. Census as well as the American Community Survey, to understand this phenomenon. My goal is to paint a fuller picture of the reasons women are migrating within New Hampshire at higher rates than men contemporarily.
